JPII Relic Pilgrimage

JPII Relic Pilgrimage
Event Ended

The traveling first-class relic of St. John Paul II, a small vial of blood from the late pontiff, will be visiting parishes and schools in the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph October 16-18, with additional stops in the Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas on October 19.

The relic is on pilgrimage throughout the United States and Latin America during this calendar year, and is encased in a unique reliquary: a white and gold book of the Gospels. A miracle of the relic is that the blood is still liquefied; no agents were added to the blood to make it coagulate.

This is one of four first-class relics of the blood of St. John Paul II from the pope's last hospitalization before his passing on April 2, 2005. Three are permanently housed in churches in Rome, Krakow and Madrid. The fourth is the one that travels the globe and will be visiting our diocese. The relic is brought from The Vatican to the United States by The Servants of the Pierced Hearts of Jesus and Mary (a religious institute founded in the Archdiocese of Miami, Florida by Mother Adela Galindo).

Bishop Johnston encourages the faithful of our diocese to take a moment during the week of October 16 to 19, 2017, to go to one of the parishes where the relic will be exposed for veneration and pray with Saint John Paul II.
