With an infectiously unforgettable score from the four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theatre giant, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell, Children of Eden), PIPPIN follows the life of a young prince named Pippin – trying to find what he most wants in life – testing out a variety of adventures along the way until he finds his corner of the sky. Pippin is pulled in every direction by the advice he receives from his father, his grandmother and the Leading Player, but he must find a way to listen to his heart to find where he truly belongs.

“PIPPIN is a journey of a young man trying to discover who he is and prove himself to his father. Through music and dance we live the story as orchestrated by the Leading Player with the help of her band of players. On this journey there is mystery, intrigue, deceit, death, peer pressure, despair, kindness, strength and love. All the makings for a fun creative night at the theatre,” said Michelle Gaudette, who is directing the production.

The original Broadway production of PIPPIN opened at the Imperial Theatre in New York City in 1972 and won five Tony AwardsⓇ. The show was recently revived on Broadway in 2013 where it won four Tony AwardsⓇ including Best Revival of a Musical.

CHARACTERS

Leading Player
The ultimate ‘ring leader.’ Masterfully charming and manipulative, the Leading Player is a chameleon of sorts. Guides Pippin through his own story and tries to intervene at the end. excellent dancer. Obsessed with putting on a great show for the audience.

Pippin
Our story’s young and confused protagonist. He is longing to find his purpose in life. Naive, innocent, and discontent. Eventually finds love, and meaning in life, with Catherine and Theo.

Pippin’s demanding father. As the King of the Holy Roman Empire, Charlemagne is more comfortable wielding a sword than breaking bread. He wears his years with great pride.

Lewis
Charlemagne and Fastrada’s son. Strong and not bright. Pippin’s half brother and after Pippin, heir to the throne. Addicted to the physical, Lewis loves weight lifting, Lewis loves wrestling, but most of all, Lewis loves Lewis

Fastrada
Pippin’s conniving stepmother. A seductress, who is no stranger to deceit and betrayal, she is both sexy and smart. Skilled at using her sexual appeal to benefit her and her son.

Berthe
Pippin’s saucy grandmother. A brassy broad full of wisdom, grace, and sass. She tries to help Pippin and encourages him to live his life to the fullest.

Catherine
A widow and mother. She is a beautiful and a hopeless romantic, who possesses graceful elegance. Encounters Pippin at his lowest point and eventually falls in love with him.
