Are you changing practice settings, or reentering nursing and looking for an update in your basic nursing skills? Nursing Skills Refresher Workshop will provide you the benefit of hands-on review and practice of common acute care nursing skills. This course builds your confidence in the skills needed to work in an adult skilled nursing or basic medical/surgical care setting. The goal of this class is to update your knowledge, practice the skills, and develop confidence in the processes. Return demonstration is a requirement of all participants.

Who Should Attend?

Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses needing a review of applied nursing skills for acute care practice settings.

Desired Learning Outcomes

Learners will practice the basic skills for providing medical/surgical nursing care:

Demonstrate how to administer an SQ and IM injection, blood sugar testing and insulin administration
Demonstrate the procedure for urinary catheterization with knowledge of sterile technique
Discuss feeding tubes and oxygen administration
Demonstrate a basic head to toe nursing physical assessment
Discuss IV line or PICC line care

Nancy Zavacki, MSN, BSN, RN

Nancy is an experienced clinical nurse educator with over 35 years of clinical experience. During her career, she has practiced in nursing homes, hospitals, and clinical settings. As a clinical nurse educator she has taught for ADN, BSN, and re-entry nursing programs. Currently, she is oversees the Oregon Nurse Re-Entry Program as the Program Director for Health & Educational Consultants.


This educational activity will provide 5.0 contact hours (including 0.0 pharmacology hours) to learners who complete the Criteria of Successful Completion.

Acute Care Education (PA-48/Nov/17) is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Washington State Nurses Association Continuing Nursing Education Approver (A-CNE), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Registration includes: Attendance at program, downloadable program handouts, all day coffee, tea, water, and snacks. All supplies are included. Wi-fi is available in the conference center.
