Beginning Backyard Beekeeping

Beginning Backyard Beekeeping
Event Ended

Do you have what it takes to raise bees successfully where you live? Do you KNOW what it takes? Urban gardeners are in love with bees. Any vegetable gardener would love to have them - flower gardeners as well. And the end result - the glorious honey they produce is just as valuable as the side effect of pollination for your garden. Many county and city ordinances now allow for a certain number of hives on private property. If you have always wanted to have a hive and learn to care for it, this class is for you. We will focus on beginner’s skills and equipment.
You will learn about how to check for the city or county ordinances in your area and then how to start and maintain an active, healthy hive and to harvest your bounty of honey. You will meet Master Gardeners who are successfully keeping bees and see demonstrations of the equipment needed to maintain a hive. For those of you who are interested you may bring a lunch and join the Master Gardeners on the lawn for a more detailed “show and tell” of their equipment and an additional question session following the noon dismissal. We want to you go home totally set up for success!
