SAVE THE DATE!

Attended by over 15,000 people each year, LUMINOUS Lantern Parade is Queensland’s largest welcome event. In 2017, we are celebrating a decade of lighting the way for new Queenslanders!

LUMINOUS is now established on the annual Queensland calendar as a show of welcome for new Queenslanders, including refugees, international students, people seeking asylum and migrants.

The parade features colourful lanterns of all sizes held by representatives from government, council, business and community groups and the broader Brisbane community celebrating our state’s great cultural diversity.

The spectacular LUMINOUS parade will wind its way down from the South Bank Cultural Forecourt to the bathing pools and back up the Arbour past the ABC building and into the Cultural Forecourt again for a vibrant world music concert. Parade walkers can either carry a small hand-held lantern, or join another community group with a large lantern - or carry an LED candle (available for purchase at Registration Marquee $2 per candle) - or simply walk and join the colourful throng.

The LUMINOUS parade and concert program are free and will feature Indigenous, Bolivian, Rwandan and Colombian rhythms from some of Australia's leading world music and dance artists. There is an array of food stalls and coffee bars with delicacies from around the world and a great festival atmosphere for the whole family.
