Swing in Rhythm, Willem Buytewechstraat 34

Event Ended

This year we will start off the season in a very special way! Back in the 1980s Lindy Hop was brought back to Europe by the efforts of a select number of Swedish dancers. They formed the performance troupe "the Rhythm Hotshots" and learned directly from Frankie Manning, Al Minns and others that danced in the Savoy during the Swing era itself. Without the Rhythm Hotshots and their efforts to spread the dance while staying true to its roots, Lindy Hop may have never revived in the way it did! We are therefore very excited and feel privileged to be able to announce that Martin and Anita, two members of the original Rhythm Hotshots, will be visiting Rotterdam to teach workshops on 2 and 3 September!

** About **

Martin and Anita have over 30 years of dancing experience both as a social dancers, performers and competitors. Both Anita and Martin competed for several years back in the 1980's and in 1988 Martin won the Swedish championships in Lindy Hop. Later on he also joined the famous dance group The Rhythm Hot Shots in 1990. Anita joined 1991 and together they were a part of the group for about 4-5 years. During their Lindy Hop careers they had the opportunity to work together with both Al Minns and Frankie Manning and have done over 400 performances both nationally and internationally. They have been teaching in the Herräng dance camp for more than 12 years. Having been away from the Lindy Hop scene now for around 15 years Martin and Anita are now returning to the Lindy Hop scene as “semi oldtimers”. They want to share the knowledge that was passed to them further to all Lindy Hoppers. They teach in old style social Lindy, african american jazz and the charleston. Together they have developed their own characteristic style in both teaching and dancing. They are without doubt a source of inspiration and bring something unique to the table. They help you improve your dancing in both style, technique and feeling!

** Schedule & level description **

12:30 - 15:15 Blue and above (2,5 hours with 15 min break)
15:45 - 17:00 Solo Jazz

Afternoon: Roffaswing at stadspodium with Biggles Big Band

Solo Jazz (1h 15min)

This is not your first time trying Solo Jazz and you know the Shim Sham and maybe even the Tranky Doo. Although not everything looks perfect yet, you are not afraid to bust out a "Shorty George" or "Kick Ball-change" on the dance floor.

Blue and above (2h 30min)

You have been dancing for at least one year or more, are familiar with the fundamentals of Lindy Hop and Charleston, including figures such as the swing-out and Tandem Charleston, and can use these moves in social dancing. You are often found on the social dancefloor and your basics are solid, but you know that the devil is in the details (and that's why you are here, right?)!

** Registration **

Registration will open Sunday 6th of August 18:00!
