Reclink Australia is excited to announce Australia’s fastest rising hip-hop act REMI and art and destruction favourites Boxwars have been added to the 24th annual Melbourne Reclink Community Cup on Sunday 25 June. For the first time, the Melbourne Reclink Community Cup is coming north side to its new home at Victoria Park.

Yarra City Council Mayor, Cr Amanda Stone is thrilled that the cup has returned to the City of Yarra – “We are delighted to welcome the Reclink Community Cup to the City of Yarra. Victoria Park has a long tradition of hosting football matches with strong local support, and is now a much loved open space for our community. Reclink Australia is doing excellent work connecting disadvantaged people with sports and the arts and the Reclink Community Cup must be one of the most enjoyable ways to raise awareness and funds for Reclink. Yarra is home to live music and community radio and this is simply a wonderful confluence of our values and interests.”

The Rockdogs (Musicians) and the Megahertz (Triple R 102.7FM & PBS 106.7FM) return for their annual clash and day of family fun, football, live music, and fundraising. This year’s theme is based on internationally renowned Brisbane band The Go-Betweens’ much-loved classic ‘Streets of Your Town’. Each event in Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Hobart, and Perth will honour the theme and The Go-Betweens in their own individual style.

REMI and Boxwars will join rock royalty Spiderbait, The Peep Tempel, Jen Cloher, along with Aussie legends Deborah Conway, Willy Zygier and She Said Zed performing ‘Streets of Your Town’ – a tribute to The Go-Betweens and the 2017 theme. For the kids, Murray Wiggle and Wally Meanie have come together and formed the Bubblegum Machine.

REMI and musical collaborator, Sensible J’s appeal is as diverse as it is impressive. They have performed their own sold out headline tours across Europe and Australia. They have shared stages with Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown, Vic Mensa, De La Soul, Joey Bada$$, Blackalicious, Hiatus Kaiyote and have performed Gorillaz tracks with Damon Albarn on his last Australian tour. REMI is currently touring his sophomore LP ‘Divas & Demons’ which was independently released through their own label, House of Beige Records.

Boxwars has impressed audiences all over Australia including Womadelaide, Enlighten, Big Day Out, Boogie, Stereosonic and Sydney Festival. The Boxwars team have also built props for music videos, including the award-winning video for King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s ‘Vulture People’. Straight off the back of achieving a Guinness World Record for an 8km cardboard castle, Boxwars will bring its corrugated absurdity to the 2017 Melbourne Reclink Community Cup.

Funds raised through the Reclink Community Cups support Reclink Australia’s work with disadvantaged communities across Australia. From its inception back in 1993, the Melbourne event now rallies more than 10,000 avid followers who collectively raise over $100,000 every year for the cause.

Reclink Australia delivers specialist sport, recreation, and arts programs for at-risk youth, people with mental illness or disability, people experiencing homelessness and domestic violence, and those facing alcohol, gambling, and substance addictions.
